We’ll complete 456 inner roads by May 2019

Ambode said in line with the 2019 target, another set of 114 roads were being identified and would be delivered next year.

 

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday said some 456 inner city roads would have been commissioned in the state before the end of May 2019.

Ambode, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri, made the projection at the commissioning of the Federal Low Cost bypass in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that commissioning of some roads, embarked upon by the state government in collaboration with local governments, began on Sept.17 and will continue until Sept. 24 in 10 councils.

Ambode said in line with the 2019 target, another set of 114 roads were being identified and would be delivered next year.

He said his government remained committed to grassroots development and charged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure in their areas.

Earlier, the Sole Administrator of the council, Alhaja Shukurat Adewunmi-Okeowo, said the link road commissioned would help in reducing traffic gridlock in the Sabo axis of the area.

“Anyone coming from Itoikin Road trying to link Sagamu Road will easily do that using this road, thereby reducing the traffic congestion of Sabo roundabout usually occasioned by unavailability of link roads,” she said.

Adewunmi-Okeowo assured that peculiar challenges in other areas within the Council were noted and would be addressed soon.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Taofieek Fasasi, who resides in the area, told newsmen that there were areas that still required more attention on the road.

He urged the contractor handling the project to attend to them urgently.

The Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ikorodu branch, Alhaji Waliu Daisi, however, commended the state government for delivering the project.

He advised motorists not to turn the place to a parking lot.

On his part, the contractor who executed the project Mr Ajibola Orile, said about N200million was spent on the asphalt road.

The contractor, reacting to the complaint by Fasasi, said his team would be back to site to ensure that the little repairs left were done.
